Imagine being paid to travel the world, searching for life’s greatest experiences. Where would you go? What would you want to see and do?
This seemingly implausible fantasy became a reality for American couple Bill Faries and Dana Peterson, who are spending more than five months appointed by Chivas Regal Scotch Whisky to live ‘The Chivas Life’, searching the world for the ultimate perfect moments.
Having recently started their journey on 26 January 2006 in Speyside, Scotland - the home of Chivas Regal - Bill and Dana are now crossing Thailand on their Chivas Life Journey, which is taking them to 20 countries around the globe to enjoy and record their experiences. As they travel they strive to be the guides and latest authority on what the world has to offer for like-minded people who enjoy living life to the full.
Chosen from hundreds of aspiring applicants, Bill and Dana were selected to be the 2006 Chivas Life Guides and challenged to set an itinerary including some of the world’s most amazing celebrations, adventures, indulgences and escapes. They will be recording their experiences – currently posted on www.ThisIsTheLife.com to compose a Chivas Life Guide 2006.
The American couple are seasoned travellers, fluent in Spanish and currently live in Bolivia, where Dana works as a diplomat for the US Agency for International Development and Bill is a freelance journalist for reputable publications such as The New York Times and The Economist.

For Thailand, one of the highlights of their journey, Bill and Dana got themselves involved in joining ‘the 5th ING Thailand Temple Run’ on 19 March 2006 at Ampur Ampawa, Samutsongkarm. The ING Thailand Temple Run 2006 with over 3,000 Thai and foreign participants is considered a sports as well as a cultural experience. The picturesque setting of the racecourse through fruit orchards, coconut plantations, small villages and past stunning Buddhist temples in Samut Songkram province made the marathon a truly unique experience.
Dana Peterson comments: “We are ecstatic to be travelling as the new Chivas Life Guides and we hope to be ambassadors for people who love to know what is out there in the world – not just by watching it on TV, but really living it. We were particularly pleased when Chivas told us we could create the itinerary ourselves. We are thrilled to be in Thailand now, and are looking forward to recording the best experiences, places and adventures that Thailand has to offer.”
In the Chivas Life, fulfilment comes from what is enjoyed and shared and the Chivas Life is a life to be lived to the full. The Chivas Life Guides project entails selecting Life Guides on an annual basis to encourage people to go out and search for their own Chivas Life adventures. This encapsulates the spirit of Chivas Regal, a whisky perfect for sharing with friends and creating your own perfect moments. |
